Dogs, cats hit just as hard by mortgage crisis
The state?s four-legged critters are also feeling the sting of the nation?s mortgage crisis.
Many homeowners who have lost their home begin renting apartments where pets may not be allowed. Animal shelter officials say the pet owners sometimes have no choice but to put dogs and cats up for adoption in those situations.
Representatives from Bridgeport and Stamford animal shelters report an increase of pets being surrendered due to lost homes. Stamford officials report they received six dogs Thursday from owners who were financially struggling.
