Recent nationwide construction crane accidents have prompted Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy Friday to call for the state to increase the number of construction site crane inspections.Currently, there are four construction sites in Stamford using cranes. Officials say in August, a crane at one of these construction sites buckled, leading to the evacuation of over 400 people from nearby homes and offices.The Stamford incident paired with two deadly construction crane accidents in New York City and Miami have led to Mayor Malloy urging the state for more frequent inspections. He says that the city relies on the state?s verification that the equipment is safe.There is only one crane inspector in Connecticut, and News 12 Connecticut has confirmed that he plans to be in Stamford next week.
