McKinney preaches safe driving message to teens

? State Senate Minority Leader John McKinney addressed students about the importance of safe driving during a forum at Fairfield Ludlowe High School Tuesday.
The forum follows recent fatal teen driving accidents in southwestern Connecticut. Earlier this month, two teens from Orange were killed in a crash on the Wilbur Cross Parkway. Three teens also died after crashing into a pole in Milford last month.
McKinney, who said teen driving accidents are on the rise in southwestern Connecticut, told 500-plus students in attendance about a teen driving measure Gov. Jodi Rell is attempting to pass.
That measure outlines two restrictions. The first calls for more practice time behind the wheel before teens get their full licenses. The second puts a limit on the number of passengers a teen driver can have in the car for the first six to 12 months that individual has a license.
