Woman loses control of car, plunges into Mill River

A Fairfield woman is in serious condition Tuesday night after losing control of her car and plunging into Mill River.

The incident happened at the intersection of Brookside Drive and Mountain Laurel Road. Police are still trying to piece together the moments before Edith Ghiron lost control and hit the water. Investigators say Ghiron may have suffered a stroke before the crash.

Fairfield Police Officer Steven Rilling and others jumped in and rescued Ghiron after her car went into the water. The vehicle was eventually pulled from the river.

Ghiron was taken to St. Vincent?s Medical Center in Bridgeport.
