Statistics show college competition may soon lessen

Southwestern Connecticut students are feeling the pressure of increased competition in college admissions, but experts say this trend might be on its last legs.
Projections show that by next year the annual number of people graduating from high school will hit 2.9 million. The record numbers are leaving many colleges seeing more applications than ever. However, the number of high school graduates is expected to drop over the next decade.
?I'm a little jealous,? Fairfield high school senior Casey Duffy says. ?I guess the harder schools I'm applying to that I won't be able to get in, my siblings might be able to get in.
To keep a healthy level of competition in college admission, Connecticut legislators are working to make sure colleges market themselves to non-traditional students.
