Rell task force urges N.Y. to reject Broadwater project
Gov. Jodi Rell, her task force and other state lawmakers are pressuring New York to reject a proposal that would place a liquid natural gas facility in the Long Island Sound.
Rell appointed the LNG task force more than two years ago to review the Broadwater project. In its final report, the group was critical of the regulators backing the project. The task force cites poor environmental impacts in the report.
New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer?s resignation is set to take place Monday. Rell has already reached out to Lt. Gov. David Paterson, who will replace Spitzer, as well as other New York agencies about her opposition to the Broadwater project.
The New York Department of State has until April 11 to decide if the project meets requirements. Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal says he has spoken to New York Department of State officials and says they are leaning toward rejecting the proposal.
Broadwater officials say they are disappointed in the Connecticut task force report.
