Connecticut Post's rival steps in after printing plant fire

They had to stop the presses at the Connecticut Post this weekend, but a rival stepped in to help.

Officials say a fire broke out Saturday in the printing plant after a spark ignited some dust and spread to rolls of paper. Though the press isn?t running, the paper is still being delivered.

When the fire brought the printing plant to a halt, the Post?s rival, the New Haven Register, became an ally. Since Sunday?s edition, the Post has been printed in the Register?s plant.

The crew at the Register?s printing plant has been working around the clock due to the extra work. Production Director Rick Bolognese says his crew of 50 almost doubled its usual daily count of printing 75,000 papers.

It could be a few more days until the Post is able to print in its own plant again.
