Milford environmentalists call for Gulf Pond cleanup

Environmentalists in Milford say they recently met with a state Department of Transportation employee about cleaning up trash near Gulf Pond.
Members of the Milford Environmental Concerns Coalition say they?ve been coming to the pond since last summer trying to clean up the trash. They are concerned about how the trash affects wildlife in the area.
Milford ECC members say the city normally picks up the garbage around the pond, but recently volunteers have found larger items. The state DOT agreed to collect the trash because it is sitting on a state road.
To keep the cleanup efforts going, ECC volunteers are forming a group called Friends of Gulf Pond. The group?s goal is to get the area ready in the next few weeks since mating ospreys will return in the spring.
