Woman rescued from burning Stratford home
Firefighters battled flames and rescued a woman from her burning home in Stratford early Sunday morning.
The fire broke out at a home on Dewey Street just after 1:30 a.m. Stratford Fire Department Lt. Jim Meccozi says on the way to the home, a call came over the radio that someone was trapped on the second floor.
Meccozi and probationary firefighter Jeremy Smith managed to get up the burned stairs to rescue the victim, Helen Temple. Both men also rushed back into the burning home to find Temple?s daughter, who turned out to be safe at a neighbor?s house.
Temple was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
Smith says this was his first-ever rescue, however, he does not want to be looked at as a hero.
?All the training kicked in,? Smith says. ?We just did what we?re trained to do.?
The Stratford Fire Marshal?s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
