Minivan smashes into vacant Westport storefront
? Rescue crews descended on Westport Monday morning after a minivan smashed through the front of a vacant store.
The accident scene is located at the intersection of Taylor Place and Jessup Road. Investigators believe the male driver tried to make a left onto Taylor Place and may have accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake. That sent the minivan smashing into the storefront at approximately 8:30 a.m.
It is believed the minivan was traveling at a speed of at least 15-20 mph at the time of impact.
The female passenger was able to walk out of the vehicle on her own. However, the building needed to be shored up before EMS crews could extract the driver. The injuries sustained by both victims are not considered life threatening.
Both the male and female passengers work as cleaners at Tiffany?s, which is located one building over from the accident scene. The identities of the victims have not been released.
