Flag found by Milford man possibly worth millions

A Milford man is trying to certify the authenticity of a rare American flag believed to have been hand-sewn for a visit by President George Washington to New London.

Gary Gianotti, a former sea captain, has been working with experts and historians for months to prove the 13-star flag is a genuine antique. The flag is believed to be worth more than $17 million if authentic.

The flag is currently on display at a museum in New London. The local historian began his crusade after spotting the flag at a historical house in New London.

Gianotti hopes to spread his story and wants the flag to be featured on the History Channel. "This historical work is a reflection of my heart and how much I love America," he says.
