Man uses bomb threat to rob Greenwich bank
A man claiming to have a bomb robbed a bank in Greenwich Friday, sparking a police search.
According to police, a man entered the Wachovia Bank in Old Greenwich with a paper bag, claimed it was a bomb and demanded money. The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash. Police say the man then took off south on Sound Beach Road.
Police say the man left the bag on the counter. An area of Old Greenwich was locked down for about an hour while the bomb squad was called in. However, the bag only contained a can of soda, say police.
There were no customers inside the bank at the time of the robbery. Police are checking surveillance video to see if they have a picture of the suspect.
