Homeowners, businesses dig out from winter storm

Homeowners and businesses across southwestern Connecticut are cleaning up Friday from the first major snowstorm of the season.
As residents start to dig out, there are a few things cities and towns want to remind them. In Norwalk, it is the business or homeowner?s responsibility to clear sidewalks. The city says it will only respond to an area if there is a complaint.
Another thing those shoveling should remember is not to throw the snow back into the street. Some business owners say there?s a constant back-and-forth because plows sometimes throw snow back onto the sidewalk as they clean the streets.
The area was hit with snow, freezing rain and sleet throughout the day Thursday. Several accidents occurred on major roadways as a result of the wintry weather.
