Bpt. police search for arsonist of church, 2 homes

Suspicious fires have ravaged a church and two houses that all rest on the same Bridgeport street.
Firefighters fought hard to save the 181-year-old Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church from burning down overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning. Police believe an arsonist set the fires at the church, which sits at the corner of Grove Street and Laurel Avenue, and two homes on Grove Street.
"To have someone do something like this is just unbelievable, that someone can be so mean," said Norsie Tucker-Hare, vice chairperson of the church's trustee board.
Investigators, who believe squatters were living in at least one of the homes, are questioning residents of the neighborhood.
No injuries were reported.
