IRS looks to pay back 1,000 Fairfield Co. residents
The IRS is waiting for more than 1,000 people in Fairfield County to claim tax refund checks totaling nearly $1 million.
The checks, averaging $800, were sent out, but some never made it to their recipients, leaving a lengthy list of people the IRS has to pay. The government is having difficulty finding the people, who most likely have moved and never told the IRS.
News 12 Connecticut set out to find some of the people on the list and found one man who didn?t know the IRS owed him money.
Income tax experts say if someone doesn?t claim their refund it can become lost for good after three years. James Cox, of Liberty Tax Service, says to make sure you pay your taxes correctly so you don?t need to get a refund.
