One woman was killed and four other people were injured in a two-car accident in Westport Tuesday.

The accident occurred on Route 57, also known as Weston Road, about half a mile north of exit 42 on the Merritt Parkway. When authorities arrived on scene in the late afternoon, fire extinguishers were needed to put out the flames in one of the vehicles, police said.

Police have not released the identities or conditions of the victims. The child passenger of the woman who was killed was brought by helicopter to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
