Mailbox barriers stirring up controversy in Easton
Three mailboxes surrounded by stone barriers are stirring up controversy in Easton.
The owners of the mailboxes on Church Road built the barriers in order to prevent their property from constantly being destroyed. Now, town officials are demanding the stone be removed since the mailboxes are on town property. The town's engineer and first selectman say someone could get seriously hurt if their car veered off the road into the mailboxes.
Town officials notified the owners about the concern via a letter. The owners have three choices on how to resolve the matter. They can remove the stone, wait for the town to take the stone away or apply for an indemnity waiver. If granted a waiver, the owners would assume all liability if someone were to get hurt as a result of the stone.
