Giant Jack-o-Lantern to bring light to local cause
A 600-pound pumpkin sat outside the Darien Sport Shop Wednesday, waiting to be turned into a Jack-o-lantern for a local cause.
The giant pumpkin will help promote an event to raise money for Darien merchants after last week?s flooding.
?We were very fortunate. We had seven people here on Thursday night actually pushing water out of our store. But I can't even imagine the devastation, how it must feel not even being able to open,? Gina Zangrillo, of the Darien Sport Shop, said.
The carving got under way with the help of a chainsaw, sweat and hard work.
The charity event, called The Pumpkin Walk, will be held Sunday, October 21 at Tilley Pond. The Darien Sport Shop has agreed to donate $5 for every Jack-o-lantern brought to the event. Organizers say they are still looking for additional sponsors.
