Police probe smash-and-grab robbery in Darien

Darien police are investigating a smash-and-grab robbery at a local deli Friday.

The owner of A Taste of Italy says the thief or thieves used a framing hammer to shatter all of the glass on the door to get inside. Police say the incident occurred around 2 a.m. According to investigators, the register was stolen from the premises and later found emptied in pieces near exit 9 off I-95.

The deli?s door has been repaired, but customers are still in shock over the robbery.

Anyone with information about the robbery is urged to call the Darien Police Department at (203) 662-5300.
