Darien cops urge caution amid rash of car burglaries
Police in Darien are warning residents to take extra precautions due to a recent rash of car burglaries.
Police say 18 car burglaries have been reported since July 1 in the town. Everything from bottles of water to laptop computers have been stolen from commuter parking lots, commercial parking lots and residential driveways, police say.
"They're going right in the driveways," Officer Steve Yaeger says. "Mostly people are leaving their cars unlocked, the windows rolled down. They're just taking stuff out of the car."
Authorities recommend residents take all valuables out of their cars. If that's not possible, police advise that those goods be stored out of sight. Police also urge residents to roll up windows and make sure doors are closed and locked properly.
