Thousands hit barbecues, beaches on Labor Day
Residents across southwestern Connecticut went out and enjoyed the unofficial end of summer on Labor Day.
Thousands trekked out of their homes to barbecues and beaches, including the packed Compo Beach in Westport. People soaked in the sun and happily waded in the water.
"We're just trying to get one more time before summer was out," Westport resident Jane Levy said.
Labor Day, a federal holiday meant to honor the nation's workforce, was an opportunity for some to stop and smell the roses.
Carol Dolce, of Westport, said it's important for people to take a break, and not worry about running their businesses or going to their jobs for the day.
