Bridgeport soup kitchen hosts first Labor Day barbecue

Bridgeport?s largest soup kitchen served up more than just soup this Labor Day.

The Thomas Merton House was slated to be closed for the holiday, but volunteers kept it open. The soup kitchen hosted its first Labor Day barbecue, complete with homemade chicken and potato salads.

Most of the food, including the ice cream, was donated by local businesses. Those who frequent the soup kitchen said the barbecue was a special treat for them.
