Rep. Caruso jumps into Bridgeport mayoral race

State Representative Chris Caruso (D - Bridgeport) officially announced his intention to run for the Bridgeport mayor?s office Wednesday.
Caruso made the announcement after collecting enough signatures to have his name on the ballot for the Democratic primary. Caruso said Bridgeport is ready for a change with new leadership and direction.
He said in his announcement that Bridgeport has had its hopes dashed by a culture of corruption, and that residents deserve more. Caruso said he has the right plans to curb the corruption.
Caruso rejected claims he will switch parties and run as an independent. "I've been a Democrat all my life, and I'll die a Democrat," he said.
The Democratic primary is September 11.
