Bluefish-Ducks diamond brawl lands player in cuffs

Two members of the Bridgeport Bluefish are recovering Wednesday after a brawl involving a Long Island Ducks player, who has been suspended indefinitely.
Ducks SS Jose Offerman is accused of attacking Bluefish pitcher Matt Beech and catcher John Nathans with a baseball bat. Police say Offerman charged the mound and hit the players with his bat Tuesday night after he was hit by a pitch from Beech.
Beech suffered a broken middle finger on his right hand. Nathans was hit in the head and suffered a concussion. Both players were treated at the hospital and released.
Offerman has been charged with second-degree assault. He posted $10,000 bond and is due in Bridgeport Superior Court on August 23. He was also suspended indefinitely from the Atlantic League. Offerman is a former major league all-star who spent time with Mets and Red Sox, among other teams.
