Amateur golfers play more than 100 holes for charity

A couple of local amateur golfers raised thousands of dollars for charity by playing more than 100 holes on the green.

CancerCare of Connecticut has held "The Longest Day of Golf" for more than 10 years. During the event, golfers raise money for each hole they play during the day.

John DeMelis and Dr. Mark DeWyingaert recently played 109 holes at Redding Country Club and raised about $20,000.

CancerCare raises money around the country through its different organizations. It provides support services for cancer patients and raised nearly $250,000 from the event this year.
