Amputee team to participate in Swim Across the Sound
The Swim Across the Sound fundraiser draws all kinds of participants, including a team of amputees swimming to raise money for local cancer patients.
Team Hanger is made up of one clinician and four amputees, including Joe Marsala, of Milford. Marsala joined the event this year. One of his legs was amputated 12 years ago after a motorcycle accident.
Marsala said he is in good shape, but he knows swimming the 17 ½ miles will not be easy. He said his goal is to raise money and help others get screened for cancer.
The team said it?s prepared for the swim, which will start in Port Jefferson, New York Saturday and finish in Bridgeport.
