Body found floating in barrel under Bridgeport bridge

Police are investigating a body they say was found in a barrel floating in Bridgeport Harbor Wednesday.

Authorities say a construction worker was on the bridge and noticed a strange steel barrel floating in the water and called police.

Officials wrapped up the body and the barrel and took it to the medical examiner. The race and gender of the body has not been released. Officials say they hope tattoos found on the body will help them pinpoint the identity.

Lt. Jim Viadero of the Bridgeport Police Department said he expects to release more details Thursday, when the autopsy is performed.
