Church targets graffiti vandalism

A war on graffiti in Milford is prompting a local church to hit the streets to help catch those responsible.
With graffiti incidents in the Devon section of the city on the rise since the school year ended, Kingdom Life Christian Church is also offering a reward to catch vandals.
Church leaders have also formed the God squad, volunteers who go out at night to try to catch the vandals in the act and then call police.
Milford's mayor says he encourages the effort.
?We want people to take pride in their neighborhoods. One of the ways they can do that is be on the look out for graffiti and let our police department know when they see it happening so we can catch them and put an end to it before it really becomes a problem,? the mayor said.
Milford police have started an anti-graffiti task force, and the city is looking to pass an ordinance that would prohibit minors from buying spray paint.
The mayor has also talked to prosecutors about requiring community service, in addition to a fine, for anyone caught. Police say they've arrested 8 teens in connection with local graffiti in the past month.
