Bridgeport residents call for signs at dead man's curve
People living near East Main and Evers streets in Bridgeport are calling for increased safety measures there because they said they are tired of motorists speeding and crashing their vehicles.
The latest incident happened Saturday when a driver?s SUV flipped over as he approached Evers Street. Joseph Lalanne, 23, is recovering from serious head injures he sustained. Authorities are investigating the accident. Bridgeport authorities say motorists driving too fast through two slightly sharp curves on East Main Street cause the majority of the accidents. The speed limit there is 35 mph, but they say some drive well beyond that.
Retired Bridgeport Fire Captain Charles Young, who lives near the curve, says he has seen several serious accidents right outside his front door.
?I?ve had several of them end up right in my yard, one of them to the side of my house,? Young said.
Bridgeport Mayor John Fabrizi said he would meet with state officials in the upcoming week to discuss taking up precautionary, preventative measures at the intersection.
