Stamford Marine Patrol officers are teaming up with New York law enforcement for a new safe boating campaign called ?Opt Save.?

The officers will spend the next week looking for boaters breaking the law out on the water. Boat owners on the Long Island Sound will be inspected, along with their vessels and passengers.

"We?re going to look for people who are operating recklessly, speeding. That may indicate a drunken boater," Sergeant Pete Wolfe said. He said they will also be making sure boaters have the proper equipment and be on the lookout for equipment violations.

Wolfe says boaters will face a fine of $120 if they don't have a safe boaters certificate for their boat, or personal watercraft certificate for their jet skis.
