Former Waterbury Mayor Philip Giordanostands convicted of state child sex crimes, after pleading nocontest to several charges today in Waterbury Superior court.
Giordano, already serving a 37-year federal prison sentence forhaving sex with children, pleaded no contest to four counts ofsexual assault and four counts of conspiracy.
Under a plea deal with state prosecutors, Giordano is to get 18years in state prison to run concurrently with his federal time.
The 44-year-old Giordano was convicted in 2003 of violating thefederal civil rights of two preteen girls by paying acrack-addicted prostitute to bring her daughter and niece to himfor oral sex.
State's Attorney John Connelly says he agreed to plea deal toprevent the two victims in the case from having to testify a secondtime about the crimes.
