Stratford man shoots daughter he thought was intruder

A Stratford teen is hospitalized Tuesday after police say her father accidentally shot her in the leg.

Police say the father, a New Haven police officer, thought his daughter was an intruder in their Soundview Avenue home. According to police, the teen snuck out of the house and was trying to get back in through a basement door around 1 a.m. The father shot her with his 9 mm service weapon.

There is no word on whether the officer has been suspended from duty while police investigate. Police say it will be up to the state attorney's office to determine whether he should face criminal charges.

The daughter is set to undergo surgery at Bridgeport Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
