CT lawmaker pushes parental tanning permission
State Senator Judith Freedman wants to make it illegal for anyone under the age of 16 to go tanning without parental permission.
Freedman said a group of Westport parents made her aware of the young age at which some teens go tanning. She says some girls are starting as early as 10 or 11 years old. ?They?re not supervised and they?re exposing their skin to something that could be harmful later on,? Freedman said.
Dermatologist Dr. Robin Oshman said tanning indoors is just as risky as laying in the sun in terms of developing skin cancer. She says either way, tanned skin is sun-damaged skin.
