CT leaders call for greater food safety regulation

Local leaders are calling for greater food safety regulation after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) placed 20 million chickens raised for market on hold because they may have eaten contaminated feed. Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) says the possible contaminated chicken feed represents the major problems that exist within the FDA. ?The FDA has antiquated laws and they lack resources? They do not want to have recall authority,? she says. Less than 1 percent of food imported into this country is inspected and that statistic is worrying many across the country, including Connecticut chicken farmers. They are monitoring their animals closely for changes that may indicate sickness.
