Search halted for boater missing off Milford

The U.S. Coast Guard has called off the search for a boater who went missing while sailing with friends off the coast of Milford Wednesday.

The victim, 52-year-old Danny Greene, of Hamden, was discovered missing at around 6:30 p.m. by two passengers who had been sleeping below deck.

The Coast Guard halted its search at around 10:45 a.m. Thursday.

Greene, originally from Milford, docked his sailboat at Milford Harbor.

According to his sister, Erica Greene-Derita, he was an experienced sailor, but had been experiencing difficulties with the boat?s sail.

The two passengers said the sail was partially up when they became aware of Greene?s disappearance. Whether or not he was raising or lowering the sail is unclear.

The circumstances of the incident are being investigated.
