Fire spreads quickly down Stamford street
A fire spread to several houses on one Stamford block Monday, leaving more than a dozen people homeless.
In all, 15 people and one family's dog were safely evacuated from their Greenwich Avenue homes. Firefighters quickly doused the flames and stopped them from spreading further down the block, where houses stand just five to 10 feet apart. Although officials know the fire started at 286 Greenwich Ave., the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Meanwhile, residents will be put up at hotels by the local Red Cross chapter.
