Stratford leaders urge town takeover of Sikorsky Airport

Stratford leaders testified Monday against the proposed state takeover of Sikorsky Memorial Airport.
Representative Bob Keeley (D-Bridgeport) proposed a bill that would allow the state to own and operate the airport. Keeley hopes a state takeover would eventually lead to an expansion of the airport so it could be used for commercial flights.
Mayor Jim Miron (D-Stratford), along with representatives Terry Backer (D) and Larry Miller (R), strongly oppose the state takeover. They all say a state takeover of the airport would be bad for Stratford. Miron says he would prefer the town purchase the airport, which is currently owned by Bridgeport. Meanwhile, many who live near the airport say an expansion would destroy the neighborhood.
