Judge allows graphic video in murder of retired Stamford teacher
(02/21/07) STAMFORD ? A judge has ruled against defense lawyers in their attempt to prevent jurors from seeing graphic crime scene footage in the case of a slain Stamford woman.
Prosecutors say Henry Gonzalez fatally stabbed 75-year-old Joanna Trautwein in her home on October 6, 2005. Although Gonzalez?s defense team tried to block the crime scene footage, a judge ruled the video can be shown to jurors. Members of the jury will now witness Trautwein, a retired schoolteacher, with her hands bound lying in a pool of her own blood.
Gonzalez?s alleged accomplice, girlfriend Jennifer Kos, is expected to testify against the suspect in exchange for a reduced prison sentence. Police say Kos held a pillow over the face of Trautwein?s eldery roommate, Barbara Kos, while the murder took place. Barbara Kos is not related to Jennifer Kos. Barbara Kos lived through the incident and testified during the trial. If convicted, Gonzalez could face 105 years in prison.
