Firefighters across CT pay respects to former West Redding chief
Firefighters from across Connecticut came out in droves Friday to honor a late fire chief who touched so many of their lives.
Friends and colleagues filled the funeral for former West Redding Fire Chief David Sanford with memories of his superior service to generations of firefighters. They say Sanford, who previously served as deputy chief in Wilton and Westport, was a fireman's fireman and was always there to be a voice of reason. Westport Assistant Chief Gene Maloney, hired by Sanford in 1981, says his friend led with the teachings of "keep your dignity, keep your cool and keep your focus."
Sanford was 62 years old. He is survived by his wife and two children.
