Older residents, nursing shortage spell trouble for southwestern CT
An aging population and ever-growing nursing shortage make a dangerous health care cocktail, according to a study initiated by Rep. Chris Shays (R-CT).
Shays was at Greenwich Hospital Monday to reveal results of his federally funded, six-part One Coast One Future Health Care Cluster Initiative. The study found the most pressing needs of southwestern Connecticut include a lack of health care professionals and a lack of effective condition management services.
Shays said business leaders and schools hold the key to reform. The lawmaker believes a tremendous business growth opportunity is linked to providing adequate care. He wants the region to reap the economic benefits. The Business Council of Fairfield County joined Shays at the event.
