Gov. Rell shows confidence in Steel Point project with $5.5M promise

Governor Jodi Rell?s (R-CT) commitment to give Bridgeport $5.5 million for the Steel Point project has brought the project one step closer to reality.
Mayor John Fabrizi (D-Bridgeport) says the money will be used for the purchase and relocation of the Talmadge Brother?s Oyster facility, which is sitting in the middle of the Steel Point location. The city acquired the property through eminent domain in December. The plan calls for moving the facility to the extreme northwest corner of the property.
Fabrizi says he is pleased with the funding commitment. He adds he is happy that Rell continues to have confidence in his leadership and the Steel Point project. The state Bond Commission is expected to approve the $5.5 million later this month. Meanwhile, Fabrizi says the last obstacle, before the $1.5 billion project can move forward, is the Pequonnock Yacht Club, which is located next to the Talmadge Brother?s facility.
