A police officer in Stamford was hospitalized Tuesday after a driver allegedly passed a stopped school bus and smashed into a police car.

The crash happened on Bedford Street at a busy intersection where police say drivers routinely disregard the law and blow past school buses. According to police, the officer saw a driver pass the bus and started to pursue the individual when the crash occurred.

Claudimir Oliveira, 29, has been charged with speeding, passing a school bus and other violations. Meantime, police say the officer will be fine.
