Expert says helmet could have saved motorcyclist in Bridgeport accident

A safety expert says a helmet could have saved a motorcyclist killed Saturday in Bridgeport. The accident happened at the intersection of Wayne and Merritt streets. Authorities say the 22-year-old victim may have collided with a sports utility vehicle, or he possibly fell off the bike and hit his head on the ground.Melissa DeJesus-Kallay says a helmet would have protected the head as much as possible if the death was due to a head injury. Without one, she says there is virtually nothing to protect it from injury. Connecticut is one of many states that allows motorcyclists to ride without a helmet. The Bridgeport Police Department is still investigating the accident. Police have yet to release the victim's identity.
