Helping hand offers temporary wheels to Bridgeport vets
Some Bridgeport vets have been offered a helping hand after vandals destroyed the city's Veterans Affairs van.
Over Thanksgiving weekend, vandals damaged the van?s steering column, slashed seats, broke lights and pried the electric side door open. The director of Bridgeport's Veterans Affairs office says the van provides at least 60 veterans a week with a ride to the VA Hospital in West Haven.
The owner of Miller Ford and the president of William B. Meyer, Inc. in Stratford say they are going to split the cost to repair the van and provide the veterans with a replacement until their van gets back on the road. They hope to have the temporary van on the road in the next couple of days.
