School officials warn Middlesex Middle School parents to watch for chicken pox

It appears some Middlesex Middle School students in Darien have caught the chicken pox virus even though they were given the vaccine.Dr. Michael Parry of Stamford Hospital says it's not unusual for someone who's been vaccinated to come down with the chicken pox virus. Fortunately, the breakthrough cases are usually mild because the vaccine creates at least some resistance. The school's principal along with the director of health services sent a letter home to parents telling them to watch for symptoms, even if they had the school-required vaccination. Symptoms parents should look for include fever, flu-like fatigue, aches and tiny blisters.Officials say the five students who contracted the virus are currently out of school.
