Some monkey business keeps Stamford's finest busy

Police in Stamford spent two hours trying to catch a 170-pound chimpanzee that escaped from its owners Sunday night. The diaper-wearing chimpanzee apparently bolted out of an SUV and started chasing a man who was walking along the street, bringing the police to shut down a section of Tresser Boulevard at Atlantic Street. The owners, Sandra and Jerome Herold, along with Stamford police, which had more than a dozen cruisers responding to the scene, were able to coax the chimp named Travis back into the SUV. But, Travis opened the door and got out again. Finally around 11:30 p.m. the chimp was caught unharmed.Because there are no regulations against owning a chimpanzee as a pet, Travis is able to remain with his owners.
