Bpt. Animal Shelter teams with N.S. Animal League to find homes for pets
(10/19/03) STRATFORD - Many animals are left abandoned every day for different reasons, and this leads to overcrowding at various shelters such as the Bridgeport Animal Shelter. On Sunday, the shelter partnered with the North Shore Animal League to bring a little hope into the lives of the animals they serve.
Janice Bassett of the Bridgeport Animal Shelter says even when little ones are adopted, they are not always guaranteed a permanent home. For instance, sometimes puppies come back to the shelter as grown dogs because people forget that they grow. Other times, the owners do not realize the responsibility of caring for a pet. She also says that bigger animals, much more than baby animals, realize that they are being rescued, and they will give their rescuer unconditional love.
Folks can take home a canine or feline for $50, which is the cost of adoption, and a lot of love. Anyone interested in volunteering time or adopting a pet from the Bridgeport Animal Shelter can call (203) 576-7727.
