10th Annual 'Making Strides Against Breast Cancer' Walk held in Westport

(10/19/03) WESTPORT - This year alone, nearly 40,000 people in the United States will lose their lives to breast cancer. On Sunday, thousands turned out for the 10th Annual "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" Walk in Westport to raise money to fight the disease.

The weather was inclement, but that did not stop people from participating. Many people feel passionate about the cause. Traffic was backed up for an hour before the walk as people tried to make their way into Sherwood Island State Park.

Organizers say a total of 3,800 people took part in Sunday's walk, raising over $450,000. It seems there was not a face in the crowd that had not been touched by the disease. Survivors, family, and friends all took steps toward the goal of finding a cure.
