Search for suspect in shooting of Bridgeport police officer

Police in Bridgeport are looking for a suspect in the shooting of one of their own. Police had been questioning a potential suspect but have released that person from custody and the search continues.Officer Hugh Tobin remains in stable condition in Bridgeport Hospital. Tobin and another Bridgeport Officer, Matin Heanue, were on patrol at the PT Barnum Complex Wednesday night when they spotted a suspicious person.Police say Officer Tobin approached the man who then pulled out a gun and fired three shots at him. Tobin was hit in the upper thigh by one of the bullets and Officer Henue then returned fire. The suspect got away.Anyone with information is asked to call the Bridgeport Police Detective Bureau at 203-576-7621 or 203-576-7624.
