Derby hit-and-run victim dies; police have potential suspect vehicle

An elderly man from Derby has died after he was struck by a car while taking his morning walk.

Joseph Vane was 85. He lived in Derby for more than 48 years. Police say he was struck just before 6 a.m. Friday, and the driver fled the scene. On Sunday, Derby police say they have a potential suspect vehicle in the case, but they would not release any details about it.

Vane was pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital after suffering multiple injuries, including head trauma and broken hips.

Police say they are actively pursuing strong leads and interviewing several witnesses, but so far they have not made any arrests. If you have any information about Friday's early morning fatal hit and run on Seymour Avenue in Derby, police ask that you call them at (203) 735-7811.
